APPARATUS

Fire engines are amazing pieces of equipment that allow firefighters to perform their jobs and get to fire scenes quickly. The important thing to know about a fire engine is that it carries water, hose and has a pump. All three components are essential to fighting fires.

A fire engine also known in some cities as a pumper, is a vehicle designed primarily for firefighting operations. In addition, many fire departments often employ their vehicles for various other uses including emergency medical services and rescue purposes.

Paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) care for the sick or injured in emergency medical settings. People's lives often depend on their quick reaction and competent care. They respond to emergency calls, performing medical services and transporting patients to medical facilities.

An emergency medical service (or EMS) is a service providing out-of-hospital acute care and transport to definitive care, to patients with illnesses and injuries which the patient believes constitute a medical emergency.
