FERUARY 23, 2024

On Thursday night, February 22, 2024, at 8:12 p.m. the Lockport Township Fire Protection District responded to a reported house fire in the area of Wespark Pkwy and Heather Ct in the Village of Romeoville.

Fire companies arrived in the area to find a two-story, single-family residence in the 100 block of Coreopsis Ct. with heavy fire from a second floor window that had extended into the attic space. Companies were able to bring the fire under control in about 10 minutes utilizing a deck gun and multiple handlines and then remained on the scene for approximately an hour performing overhaul to ensure that the fire was completely extinguished.

The owners were not home at the time and no injuries were reported. The fire caused extensive damage to the home leaving it uninhabitable, so the Red Cross did respond to the scene to assist the family with any needs.

The fire was upgraded to a Full Still which brought mutual aid assistance from Bolingbrook, East Joliet, Homer, Romeoville, Plainfield, and Troy Fire Departments.

The Lockport Fire Investigators were assisted by investigators from Romeoville Fire and while the cause is still under investigation it appears to be accidental in nature.
