Emergency Responses:

The Lockport Township Fire District continues to work throughout the community and we come into contact with many people.  We are taking the utmost precautions to ensure the safety of our personnel and the residents we care for during this pandemic.  Our Firefighter/Paramedics are wearing a higher level of Personnel Protective Equipment on every call and will be screening the residences we respond to in order to take the proper precautions for both responders and patients.

EMS Transports:

Temporarily, hospitals in our area have restricted visitors in their facilities, with the exceptions of parents of minors. The Fire District will be following the same procedure as it applies to the family of the patients we transport to these hospitals.  Once the hospitals start allowing visitors, the Fire District will follow suit.

Thank you for your cooperation,

The Lockport Township Fire Protection District responded to an early morning fire in the  2500 Blk of S. Farrell Rd in unincorporated Lockport Township.  The initial alarm came in at approximately 0311hrs on April 3rd for a reported barn fire.  Crews arrived to find a barn approximately 50’ x 100’ fully involved in fire.  The fire had also extended to the adjoining metal pole building on the property.  The barn where the fire originated was used to house numerous sheep, all of which perished in the fire.  The fire building had collapsed and was a total loss while the exposure building sustained significant damage.

Crews spent approximately three hours on the scene due to a large amount of overhaul that was needed to extinguish the fire.

East Joliet, Homer, Northwest Homer, Plainfield, and Romeoville fire departments provided change of quarters coverage while Lockport crews worked at the fire.

There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Lockport Township Fire District does not solicit funds by phone.

Severe Weather Safety

A tornado is a violently rotating column of air extending from the base of a thunderstorm down to the ground. Tornadoes are capable of completely destroying well-made structures, uprooting trees, and hurling objects through the air like deadly missiles. Tornadoes can occur at any time of day or night and at any time of the year. Although tornadoes are most common in the Central Plains and the southeastern United States, they have been reported in all 50 states.

If you know what to do before, during and after a tornado, you will minimize your risk of injury and increase your chances of survival. You'll also find links to research, past events other topics of interest as well as downloadable safety handouts about thunderstorms, lightning, and tornadoes.

If you, or someone you know, has been a victim of a tornado, please share your story so we can prevent others from becoming a victim. When you write, please note that NWS has permission to use your story and, if possible, let us know the town and state you were in and the year the event took place.
