On Monday March 20th, 2023, at approximately 1738 hours the Lockport Township Fire
Protection District responded to a reported fire in the 200 Blk of Oak Creek Lane in the Village of Romeoville. Fire companies arrived to find a working fire located in the attached garage of the home, that was quickly communicating up the outside of the residence as well as involving multiple vehicles. The affected unit was part of a 4-unit townhome complex. Damage was primarily contained to the main fire unit, with light smoke affecting the adjacent unit. The alarm was elevated to the full still level. The fire was controlled quickly by the crews from the initial alarm response. Primary and secondary searches, as well as overhaul and checking for fire extension were completed by additional crews.
The residents were home at the time of the fire and were able to safely evacuate prior to the fire departments arrival. The residents were not going to be able to stay in the home due to fire and smoke damage. Red Cross was assisting with relocating the occupants.
The cause of the fire appears to be accidental but is being investigated by the Lockport Fire Investigators, with the assistance from members of the Romeoville Fire Investigators.
